Manila: The body of a Filipina college student who had gone missing since Saturday (May 20) was found on Tuesday in northern Philippines, authorities said.

Police said the body of the 21-year-old Jasmin Grace Casale was discovered behind bushes in a village in Tuguegarao City. Casale is originally from the town of Atulayan Norte, in Cagayan Valley province, about 470 kilometers north of Manila.

According to Capt. Rosemarie Taguiam, the city's police information officer, Casale failed to come home on Saturday despite having informed her parents that she was seeing a friend.

Capt. Taguiam said a concerned citizen found the body of the victim on Tuesday (May 23) and informed the police. The officer said that based on the statement of the victim's family, Casale had told them said she was going to meet someone, but did not mention who.

When she did not return home, the victim's family posted an appeal for help on social media the next day.

The police suspect that the victim's body was probably just dumped in the area where she was found, but was murdered elsewhere.

Police are still investigating the case to establish the cause death and identify the perpetrator.
