Manila: Typhoon Egay is expected to "intensify" even more while passing east of Baler on Tuesday, according to the state weather bureau.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Egay was seen at 11 am 525 km to the east of Baler, Aurora, and it will generate winds of up to typhoon strength and that reach 600 kilometers from the center.

In a briefing, Pagasa Assistant Weather Service Chief Chris Perez stated that "we're not ruling out the possibility" that "it's possible pa tayong magtaas ng warning signal no. 4 at 5" because "it's possible pang tumaas ito sa super typhoon category."

[Translation: We're not ruling out the possibility that we may raise the warning signal to no. 4 and 5 since we see the possibility that Egay will reach the super typhoon category.]

SUPERTYPHOON
It is defined as a typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph (241 kph) or stronger.

Some places in Asia have lower wind thresholds.

Provinces in the Luzon and Visayas island groups could take the most hit. No storm warning has been issued for Mindanao, according to the most recent weather report. 

It is seen affecting the following areas in Luzon:

Catanduanes, central and eastern portion of Isabela (Palanan, Dinapigue, Santo Tomas, Cabagan, Tumauini, San Pablo, Maconacon, Santa Maria, Quezon, Delfin Albano, Mallig, Quirino, Roxas, Burgos, Ilagan City, Divilacan, San Mariano, Gamu, Naguilian, Benito Soliven, City of Cauayan, Reina Mercedes, Luna, San Manuel, Aurora, Cabatuan, San Guillermo, Echague, Jones, Angadanan, Alicia, San Mateo, San Isidro, San Agustin), eastern portion of Albay (Rapu-Rapu, Bacacay, City of Tabaco, Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi), eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, San Jose, Sagñay), northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan), eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela), eastern and central portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Amulung, Alcala, Iguig, Tuguegarao City, Solana, Enrile), and the northern portion of Camarines Norte (Calaguas and Maculabo Islands)

Warning level

PAGASA also raised an orange warning level over Catanduanes and Camarines Sur (Partido area) due to heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon. The agency also said flooding and landslide are possible.

Meanwhile, signal number 1 is hoisted over the following areas:
