Manila: A strong earthquake of magnitude shook the northern Philippine islands region on Tuesday, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

The quake hit was at a depth of 31km (19.26 miles), GFZ said. QuakeAlerts reported a magnitude 6.3 that took place 74km NNW of Claveria, or 136 km northeast of Laoag at 7:03 pm local time (GMT +8)/ 11:03 UTC in northern Luzon, Philippines.

There were no immediate reports of tsunami or damage from the quake. The GFZ earlier said the quake had a magnitude of 6.8, with a depth of 10 km.
