Documentary planned on the life of late MILF chieftain
Manila: A young Moro film maker is set to start shooting of a documentary on Salamat Hashim, the late chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a report said.
The MILF website said Gutierrez Mangansakan II will utilise interviews with family members, comrades, media and scholars on Mindanao in the documentary.
The website said the story will cover crucial junctures in the life of the Moro revolutionary, from humble beginnings as a youngster growing up in Pagalungan, Maguindanao, to his education in Egypt. It also delves into Salamat's involvement in the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), a movement he had also led as one of its co-chairmen, to the eventual founding of the MILF, and from his life abroad to his return in Mindanao.
The documentary will also cover incidents from the time former president Joseph Estrada launched an "all-out war" against the Moro separatist group in 2000 to the Buliok conflict in 2003.
Mangansakan said the late MILF chairman who died in 2003 is a well-respected and beloved figure among the Bangsamoro people.
