Back-to-back earthquakes jolt Philippine islands

Manila: A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck in Ilocos Norte, in the northern Philippines on the morning of July 15, 2025, following another tremor felt in the south earlier in the day.

The tremors were felt across the two regions. Reports indicate a moderately shallow epicentre close to the city of Laoag hit at 10.38am on Tuesday.

The earlier one, with a Magnitude of 4.5, struck around 4am some 185 km south-east of Sarangani, Philippines with a depth of about 35.0km.

The event was significant enough to be reported by multiple seismic monitoring agencies.

Residents and local authorities are advised to remain alert for possible aftershocks and to follow safety advisories issued by PHIVOLCS and local disaster response teams.
