5.3 magnitude quake rattles Philippines

Tremors felt in Quezon City, Tagaytay, Batangas, Zambales

MANILA: A 5.3-magnitude earthquake Batangas and neighbouring provinces on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake occurred at 5:12 pm located 24 kilometers (km) southwest of Calatagan  town in Batangas province, south of Manila.

People reported strong tremors in Quezon City and Zambales. "I thought I was feeling dizzy, before I realised there's earthquake," according to tweep Dona Alva.

Some parts of Manila felt Intensity 3 tremors while it was at Intensity 2 in San Felipein Zambales province. 

Calapan City felt at Intensity 4 temblor, according to the intensity meter in the office of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department. Seismologists said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 99 km.

Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks. There were no immediate reports of damage caused by the tremor.
