Islamabad: The Pakistan government will award a medal for chivalry and dutifulness to a Sindh police constable who saved a citizen’s life at Rohri Railway Station.

The incident took place on 8th Moharram, August 16 and in a video clip that is making the rounds on social media, the train can be seen departing from the Rohri railway station.

All of a sudden a man falls from the roof of the train where already a large number of passengers are sitting.

Constable Jamal Kallhoro who is on duty and standing on the platform watching the train pass slowly away reaches for the man when he sees him falling from the moving train’s roof. Putting his own life in danger, he pulls the man safely on the platform.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet on Friday announced that the government would honour Constable Jamal Kalhoro for his “dedication to duty.”

Khan had commended the policeman earlier in the following words, “This is where duty becomes sacred,” and admired the commitment of the young policeman to serve his country.

Every year on Pakistan Day (March 23) medals are awarded in various countries to Pakistanis for their outstanding performance/work.

Social media users have also paid rich tribute to the policeman by sharing the video and calling him a ‘real hero’ of Pakistan. The Sindh police should acknowledge the brave actions of this officer, they demanded in their posts.

This is not the first time the premier has lauded the performance of law enforcement officials. Earlier, in June, he had met Islamabad Traffic Police Head Constable Qaiser Shakeel and praised his “conscientiousness” in performing his duty despite being injured.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Shakeel was injured on June 9 and returned to work on June 11 after a two-day rest.

A picture of Shakeel was also shared on social media in which he could be seen directing traffic on a busy road in the capital with his arm in a cast.

Khan had called Shakeel to the Prime Minister’s House and praised and encouraged him for “performing his duty well despite being injured.” The premier also announced a reward for the official.
