Karachi: The Sindh government has announced a 20 per cent increase in salaries to its employees.
The increase in salaries is earmarked in the new budget for 2021-22.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the additional portfolio of provincial Finance Department, presented the new budget.
A few days ago, the federal government announced 10 per cent adhoc relief in salaries and pensions of its employees.
The government also announced an increase in the pensions of its retired employees by ten per cent. The minimum monthly wage of the labourers in the province has been increased to Rs25,000.
In his statement, Sindh government’s spokesman, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, said the provincial government had presented a people-friendly and balanced budget despite challenging financial conditions.
He said the new provincial budget didn’t contain any new taxes as an effort was being made to provide maximum facilities to the residents of the province.
He said that the budget provided ample relief to both the in-service and retired employees keeping in view their economic needs.
He said the budget also earmarked Rs100 billion for development projects in Karachi. The spokesman’s said that an electric bus project would be launched in Karachi besides other projects to upgrade civic infrastructure of the city.
