Peshawar: Police say six people travelling in a car were ambushed and killed by Taliban militants in Pakistan's volatile northwest. Revered tribal leaders are among the dead.

Police officer Mohammad Ghani Khan says the anti-Taliban citizen's group was traveling from the Machikhel tribal area Thursday to meet security officials in Bannu district when their convoy was sprayed with bullets.

He says police have found six bodies including four prominent tribal elders. Several people were wounded.

The formation of anti-Taliban citizen groups is supported by Pakistan's government and has angered the militants leading to attacks.
