Islamabad: Pakistan’s foreign minister confirmed on Friday he has tested positive for COVID-19. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that he has immediately quarantined himself at home after suffering from a “slight fever” and will continue to work from home.

“By the grace of Allah, I feel strong and energetic. I will continue to carry on my duties from home. Please keep me in your prayers” he tweeted.

Pakistan’s two former premiers, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, as well as several lawmakers, and politicians have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Most of them have recovered.

Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid and PPP leader Saeed Ghani are among the prominent political leaders who contracted the virus. All of them have recovered.

More than 221,000 people have tested positive across the country with more than 4,500 deaths reported. Half of those infected or 113,600 have recovered from the virus.
