Karachi: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted two more days till February 15 2021 to prospective candidates to file their nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections to be held on March 3.

Earlier, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party appealed to the ECP to revise the schedule for the elections to give time to contesting candidates to properly file their nomination papers and conduct the campaign to contest the poll.

In a video statement, Central Information Secretary of the PPP, Faisal Karim Kundi, said that the ECP had released in haste the schedule as the same had trampled upon the democratic rights of the contesting political parties and the prospective candidates.

He said the PPP had formally written a letter to the ECP to convey its request to revise the schedule of the Senate polls.

Necessary revision

“The haste shown by the Election Commission in this regard is unprecedented and beyond my comprehension,” said the PPP’s senior office-bearer.

He said the revision in the election schedule had become necessary so to let the contesting candidates properly file their nomination papers and conduct the poll campaign.

The polls will be held to fill 52 seats of the Senate, the upper house of the Pakistani parliament.
