Karachi: Day-time temperature in Karachi reached to 42 degrees on Tuesday afternoon with dusty winds blowing at 24 kilometers per hour and humidity coming to 30 percent.

Pakistan Meteorological Department officials associated with its Karachi centre, talking to APP, said zero precipitation was recorded since morning that may have added to the intensity of the weather for many of the citizens.

As per Met department forecast temperatures would be reaching 40 to 42 degrees centigrade for two consecutive days from May 01 to May 02, however, the following days are expected to provide the Karachiites the needed relief with weather turning comparatively pleasant.

Concerned departments and facilities in adherence to the heat warning issued by the department have taken series of measures to provide needed relief to the affected people.

"Since it would be public holiday tomorrow we hope that many of the Karachiites will prefer to stay home," said Dr. Sadiq Baloch, a health department official.

Mentioning that citizens in general appeared to be mentally prepared to brave the situation, he said provincial as well as district governments are fully cognisant of their responsibilities towards the masses.

High alert was said to have been declared in all public sector facilities with all relevant measures also taken to provide immediate first aid to the heat victims.

"Equal attention has been paid to raise public awareness among people to avert and manage possible instances of heat stroke and associated heat injuries," said the senior medical officer.
