Islamabad: The two sons of former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan arrived on Thursday in Lahore to meet their dad who is recovering at home after an assassination attempt that wounded his legs.
Khan’s sons, Sulaiman Khan and Kasim Khan, reached Lahore from London on Thursday afternoon, his party confirmed Gulf News. Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal received them at Lahore airport after which they left for Khan’s home near Zaman Park in Lahore, according to reports.
This is the first time Khan is meeting his sons in years. There were no reports of the family reunion during his three-and-a-half-year tenure as prime minister in Pakistan.
Imran Khan’s sons are in their early 20s and live in the United Kingdom with their mother Jemima Goldsmith. Khan’s ex-wife Jemima had expressed relief at the news that Khan survived the attack on November 3 in Wazirabad city of Punjab. “The news we dread … Thank God he’s okay,” she wrote on Twitter. She also conveyed gratitude to the man who tackled the attacker saying “Thank you from his sons to the heroic man in the crowd who tackled the gunman.”
In a recent interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, Khan said his sons were “quite worried” after hearing about the assassination attempt. “It was two hours drive to the hospital. The moment I got to the hospital, I spoke to my sons. My boys were quite worried and I hope to see them soon.” Khan also shared “My eldest son always used to worry when I entered politics” some 26 years ago. In politics, “you always expect your life to be in danger … But I took the decision that it is better to fight for justice.”
Khan’s convoy was attacked when he was leading a protest march toward Islamabad to press for early elections. He suffered bullet injuries on his legs and received treatment at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital which Khan built in 1994.
