Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari departed on Monday to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting from May 23-26 in Davos, Switzerland.

The foreign minister will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman. The foreign minister and the minister of state will participate in several WEF events on contemporary global and regional issues while the climate change minister will participate in events on climate change and its impacts on the global community and Pakistan.

The World Economic Forum annual meeting 2022 is being held May 22-26 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting is bringing together nearly 2,500 political and business leaders and experts from around the globe. Some of the major areas of discussion are: global and regional cooperation, economic recovery, health, climate change, food security threat, future jobs and technological revolution.

Pakistan’s foreign minister “will share Pakistan’s perspective on the economic and social impacts of the evolving geopolitical developments as well as the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, food and energy security, and climate change,” the official statement said. FM Bilawal will also meet his counterparts attending the annual meeting and interact with the media.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recently concluded his first official bilateral visit to China (May 21-22) and US visit (May 18-19) after assuming office. The 33-year-old chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was sworn in as Pakistan’s youngest foreign minister on April 27, joining the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
