Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday condemned a US drone strike in its North Waziristan tribal area that reportedly killed five suspected militants a day before.

Islamabad has routinely issued such denunciation after each drone attack on its territory in the past.

In a statement the Foreign Office reiterated that drone strikes are in disregard of Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty and international law.

“These events also generate distrust among the local populace,” the statement said, renewing the country’s demand for cessation of the drone campaign.

North Waziristan, one of the seven tribal districts along the Afghan border, was a nerve-centre of multiple militant groups before the military launched a full-scale operation there in June 2014.

According to the military the terrorist infrastructure has been destroyed in North Waziristan, a large number of militants have been killed and remnants in pockets close to the border are being tackled in the still continuing operation.
