No bail for Gilani’s son

Applications disposed of due to absence of accused at hearing

Islamabad: A high court on Monday rejected bail applications of Ali Mousa Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and Textile Industries Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, both accused in an ephedrine import scandal.

The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court disposed of the bail applications due to the absence of the two accused at the hearing.

Ali Mousa and Shahabuddin are accused of pressuring officials of the health ministry in 2010 to allocate huge quotas of controlled chemical ephedrine to two different pharmaceutical companies.

The army-supervised Anti-Narcotics Force, which is investigating the scandal, had taken the two accused into custody under the law after the court’s rejection of their bail applications. The accused have right to appeal to the Supreme Court against the high court’s judgement.
