Islamabad: More than 100,800 people have recovered from coronavirus in Pakistan, health officials have announced. The latest number indicates that the recovery rate across Pakistan now stands at 47 per cent.

The four factors that determine the ratio of the virus spread include the number of daily positive cases, number of patients in hospitals, patients on ventilators and number of deaths. “All four parameters have been showing positive signs as the numbers are declining,” said Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar. The country also witnessed decreased patient inflow to hospitals.

Officials heaved a sigh of relief, but also warned people to strictly follow the guidelines, citing that the positive news could also trigger a fresh outbreak if people take it as an excuse to stop following precautionary measures.

Pakistan has now enhanced the testing capacity to 25,000 a day across the country. The country has conducted a total of 1.3 million tests so far.

Pakistan among 12 most-affected countries

Pakistan, however, is among the 12 most coronavirus-affected countries in the world as it has surpassed France and Turkey with 213,000 cases, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

Minister Asad Umar, who is heading the country’s COVID-19 response centre, recently warned that the number of infections could exceed 1.2 million by the end of this month if the current trend continues.

In the third week of June, Pakistan had restricted the movement of one million people under smart lockdown based on the government’s trace, test and quarantine (TTQ) strategy, after 20 cities across Pakistan that were COVID-19 hotspots.
