He has been lodged for seven months
Hyderabad: YSR Congress President YS Jaganmohan Reddy celebrated his 40th birthday in Chanchalguda prison in Hyderabad, where he is lodged for the last seven months in connection with the disproportionate assets case.
While his family members met him in the jail to celebrate the occasion, hundreds of his supporters gathered outside the jail in old city of Hyderabad to celebrate the birthday.
Mother Vijayalakshmi, wife Bharati and children spent two hours with Jagan inside the jail. On coming out of the main gate of the jail, Vijaylakshmi cut a cake on insistence of Jagan supporters.
YSR Congress workers organised several programmes all over the state to mark the occasion. They distributed Sarees among the poor women and notebooks among the needy students and also organised special prayers for his early release from jail. They also cut cakes and distributed sweets.
Jagan had recently injured his leg while playing badminton in the jail. His sister Sharmila, who underwent knee surgery a couple of days ago, could not visit him.
Meanwhile in a major setback to Jagan, the central government has given its nod to the prosecution of Indian Revenue Service official Brahmanand Reddy in disproportionate assets case of YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He is an accused in the case of irregularities in allotting thousands of acres of land to private parties for developing an industrial corridor and ports in Guntur and Prakasham districts.
