ISLAMABAD: The federal capital is doing well against COVID-19 on both counts — vaccination as well as patient recoveries — as the city reported 0.89 per cent positivity rate.
Wednesday turned out to be the second day in a row when the positivity remained less than 1 per cent in the city.
District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad confirmed to Gulf News that more than 50 per cent of the eligible population has been inoculated and the vaccination campaign is bearing fruit both in rural and urban areas of the federal capital with more and more people coming to take the jab.
If Islamabad residents show the same level of responsibility, following all the necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and receiving the jabs, the day is not far when the city will be declared ‘COVID-19-free city’, he said.
During the last 24 hours, 4,170 tests were conducted, of which 37 were reported positivity in Islamabad and the positivity rate thus turned out to be 0.89 per cent.
A day earlier too, the COVID-19 positivity rate was 0.9 per cent as 31 were reported positive after 3,463 tests in the previous 24 hours.
Reminders for ‘first-jabbers’
A helpline has been set up at the district health office to make phone calls to all those reluctant citizens who have received the first dose of vaccine but have not turned up for the second.

15% yet to get second dose
According to Prime Minister’s top aide on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) had 85 per cent compliance report but 15 per cent are yet to be administered the second dose.
