Dubai: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan wants truth to prevail in ‘Naya Pakistan’ (new Pakistan).
The premier tweeted in support of Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa’s statement on punishing those who give false testimony and linked it with his vision of the country.
“‘Journey towards truth’ is a journey towards Naya Pakistan. Nations become great because they have a higher value system,’ Khan tweeted today.
On Monday, The Supreme Court ruled for dismissing whole testimonies if any part of it is found to be false.
The order came after the court was presented with a case of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Khizar Hayat who had given a false testimony during a 2007 murder case in Narowaal, according The News International, an English language daily in Pakistan.
The court ordered action to be taken against Hayat in accordance with law because he gave false testimony.
“From today we are starting journey towards truth,” the Chief Justice said, according to the report.
“Being a police official, you told a lie and gave false testimony”, the Chief Justice told Hayat.
Khan’s support of the court’s decision was well received online. His post has gotten over 6,000 retweets, 25,700 likes and 1,500 replies so far.

Whereas, user @Shanulqadir highlighted the importance of minimising false testimonies in the justice system. He wrote: “False testimony is a big hindrance in providing justice to a common man. It should be eradicated on priority basis.”
Twitter user, @AhmadKhanOnline, took the opportunity to discuss other issues surrounding the legal system in the country. He tweeted: “Sir, ensure protection of witnesses through effective laws first, otherwise, this step too [will] bounce back as no one will be ready to give testimony against powerful criminals. Justice is already delayed in our judicial system. Hard core criminals escaped from punishment because of no testimony.”
