8 suspects arrested, with one still at large and believed to be in Singapore
Indonesia has named six former executives of state energy giant Pertamina and three private-sector figures as suspects in a case involving oil procurement, widening one of the largest corruption investigations in the nation’s history.
The Southeast Asian nation’s attorney general’s office said late Thursday that it had arrested eight suspects in the case, with one still at large and believed to be in neighbouring Singapore.
It accused the suspects of irregularities related to oil procurement between 2018 and 2023, including in matters of export and import, vessel and terminal leasing and product compensation arrangements.
It said the broader case had caused an estimated 285 trillion rupiah ($17.6 billion) in state and economic losses, up almost 50% from estimated state losses reported during previous arrests in February.
