5,149 children turn out decked in white loin cloths and Gandhi-style spectacles to commemorate Indian icon
Hyderabad: A new entry in the Guinness Book of World Records was set on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi when 5,149 children decked in Gandhiji’s attire gathered in Nalgonda on Tuesday.
The children donned white loin cloths, with their heads covered in white wigs or cap. They each sported reading glasses and carried a stick in hand as they gathered to pay their respects to Gandhi in novel style.
The initiative was organised by the Gandhi Gyan Pratishthan and Global Family organisation.
The earlier record was set in Bengaluru where 4,605 children decked in Gandhi attire gathered to commemorate his life.
Interestingly the new Guinness record was created in the same Nalgonda district which has a temple dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.
The two-floor temple at Pedda Kaparthy village also boasts a library with books on all religions, in accordance with Gandhi’s teachings and his philosophy of peaceful co-existence.
