Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that the state will send 500 tonnes of rice worth Rs10 million to Kerala. He directed the civil supplies department to make the necessary arrangements after a request from his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan.
Civil Supplies commissioner Akun Sabharwal said that 30 trucks carrying the rice would leave Hyderabad for Ernakulam on Wednesday. Minister for civil supplies E Rajinder discussed the arrangements with the officials to transport the consignment.
This was in addition to the assistance of Rs250 million (Dh13.13 million) Telangana has already given to Kerala.
The state government has also sent 100 tonnes of nutritious food for children, 20 tonnes of milk powder, 20 reverse osmosis units for cleaning water, 100 tonnes of cattle feed and 125,000 doses of veterinary vaccines.
Kerala CM Vijayan thanked Telangana for the donation of Rs250 million to his flood hit state. In a letter addressed to Chandrasekhar Rao, Vijayan said, “I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the people of Kerala for your kind gesture in contributing Rs25 crore [Rs250 million] for relief and rehabilitation in flood affected areas in Kerala”.
“The overwhelming response for you state and others demonstrate the extent of compassion and care that we show to each other in the hour of crisis and calamity which makes us all proud of being part of Indian ethos and spirit”, the letter said.
Meanwhile various sections continue to come forward to extend a helping hand to Kerala. After the Indian Police Service officers association, the IAS officers Association members have also announced donating their one day salary to Kerala CM’s relief fund.
Meanwhile Telangana Legislative Council Chairman V Swamy Goud has convened a meeting of all the MLCs to discuss the relief for Kerala. The MLCs were expected to announce donating their one month salary for the relief work in Kerala.
