The incident has triggered a strong reaction online with many users criticising TCS
A photo of a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee sleeping on a footpath outside the company’s Sahyadri Park campus in Hinjewadi, Pune, has gone viral sparking widespread outrage on social media and prompting a public response from the IT giant.
The man in the image, identified as Sourabh More, is seen lying on the pavement next to a handwritten letter explaining his situation. In the note, he wrote: “I have informed HR I don’t have money and will be forced to sleep and live outside TCS on the footpath."
According to a post shared by the Forum of IT Employees (FITE) on social media platform X, More returned to the TCS Pune office on July 29, 2025, but found his employee ID still inactive and his salary unpaid. During a meeting on July 30, HR reportedly told him they "hope you receive your salary on 31st July," but no payment was made. More informed them he had no money and would be forced to sleep outside the office. Since then, he has been staying on the footpath outside the premises, according to FITE.
FITE added a note for others, stating: "Employees, remember — your rights are protected under Indian labour laws. Don’t hesitate to take legal help."
FITE praised More’s protest as courageous and encouraged him to file a formal complaint with the Labour Office to reinforce his claim.
In response, TCS issued an official statement:
"This is a case of unauthorised absence where the employee has been absent from office. In accordance with standard procedure, payroll was suspended during this period. The employee has now reported back and requested reinstatement. We have provided him accommodation for now and are supporting him in addressing his situation in a fair and constructive manner."
TCS added that they are actively working to resolve the issue and that efforts are currently underway to address the situation.
