West Bengal celebrated the 106th birth anniversary of freedom-fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Kolkata: West Bengal on Monday celebrated the 106th birth anniversary of freedom-fighter Netaji (leader) Subhas Chandra Bose.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee garlanded Bose's statue at Curzon Park.
Mamata told Gulf News: "It is one of those days, where we resolve and reaffirm our love for our motherland. Netaji was not only a freedom fighter, but an icon for Bengal and the country."
Bose, founder of the Indian National Army, was reportedly killed when a Japanese military plane in which he was flying crashed on August 18, 1945, in Formosa, as Taiwan was then called.
