Patna: A man in Bihar entered a red-light area, masquerading as a client, to rescue his sister who had gone missing from her in-laws’ home some four years ago.
The incident took place in Bakhari block of Begusarai district last week.
The rescued woman, from the Dalit community, was reunited with her parents over the weekend, thanks to quick action by the local police.
The victim, a resident of Sheohar district in Bihar, was staying with her husband in Haryana when she was lured by some unscrupulous elements and trafficked into the flesh trade some four years back.
However, her family members were not aware about this and they filed a missing case with the local police.
The woman had moved to Haryana soon after her marriage and her husband worked there in a factory.
Reports said initially the victim was sold to a brothel in Kishanganj district from where she was handed over to another brothel running at Nadail village in Begusarai district, some 130km east of Patna.
About a fortnight ago, she noticed her brother’s friend selling some goods in the lane housing the brothel and sought help.
Initially, the hawker thought he was getting an invitation as a “client” but when she repeated her gesture, he listened to her.
It was then that she narrated her story.
She requested him to convey her message to her brother. Reports said the hawker rushed to the girl’s brother in Sheohar district and provided him with all the details of his sister’s whereabouts.
Last week, the youth rushed to meet his sister at the brothel masquerading as a client and came to know about her miseries.
During the brief meeting with his sister, he gathered all the details about the people involved in the flesh trade and trafficking of women.
Subsequently, the youth informed the local Begusarai district police which conducted raids in the red light areas and rescued his sister from the clutches of the flesh traders.
“We conducted raids on the basis of information provided to us by the victim’s brother and rescued the girl. We also rescued another girl who is a resident of Gumla (in Jharkhand),” station house officer of Bakhari police station Sharat Kumar said.
According to the official, the rescued girl was handed over to her family members after a medical examination was conducted at a local hospital and her statement was recorded in a local court on Friday. He informed the police also arrested two people for illegally running the flesh trade but the main accused Ashok Khalifa is absconding.
Narrating the story behind her sister’s release, the youth who doesn’t want to be identified said, “The broker showed me two girls when I paid Rs200. I chose my sister and stayed with her for barely five minutes to get all the details (about how to rescue her)”.
According to him, he left the place promising to come soon and returned to the spot in the company of the police which conducted the raids.
