Girl allegedly raped after fleeing father
Thiruvananthapuram A class eleven Dalit (socially and economically poor) girl was allegedly raped after fleeing from her drunken father who was also allegedly trying to rape her.
Sixteen-year-old Rupa (not her real name) ran out from her home at Kalayapuram in Kerala's Kollam district, on Monday night to escape from her drunken father whom she claimed was attempting to rape her.
But she fell into the hands of two young thugs who allegedly repeatedly raped her. Police sub-inspector Benny Lalu, who is investigating the case, said that the girl was moved from her home to a hostel run by the Kerala Mahila Samakhya society in Thiruvananthapuram nearly two weeks ago as she had complained that her father Rajan, an agricultural worker, had tried to molest her at their house.
She was brought back home on Friday to attend the annual examination.
Although her teacher, who sponsored her hostel stay compelled her to stay at her [the teacher's home], the girl preferred to stay at her home, said the police official. On Monday night, her drunken father got into a heated exchange with her mother, also a farm worker, the girl and her younger sister and allegedly tried to rape her.
Not so lucky
To escape from her father, she ran out of her home, but the youths who were hanging around in the vicinity caught her and allegedly gang-raped her after gagging her. They then dumped the girl in the backyard of a nearby house and fled.
The girl was later admitted to a primary health centre and she is not yet recovered from the trauma, he said.
The police have identified the youths as Shine and Manoj, both truck drivers in their mid-twenties. They have absconded. Police have registered a case against the youths and the girl's father.
