Islamabad: The Punjab government in order to meet its 100 per cent vaccination target has decided to launch door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination drive starting Monday, October 25.
A notification issued by the provincial government said the campaign would continue until November 12 in the biggest populated province (of over 100 millon population) of the country and during the door-to-door vaccination drive, the residents of Punjab’s 36 districts would be inoculated at their doorsteps.
As per the notification, the drive aimed at ensuring that 100 per cent of the targeted people are immunized against the virus.
The authorities have also appointed a focal person who will ensure that the campaign achieves the set target.
The move has been made to vaccinate the people who still have not got themselves vaccinated after reports showed that a number of people had not received the coronavirus vaccine jabs.
According to authorities, legal action will be taken against those who refuse to get themselves vaccinated.
On Friday, the province’s positivity rate was recorded 1.1 per cent and according to the Primary & Secondary Health Department (PSHD) of the province, 162 new COVID-19 infections were reported against 15,002 tests conducted in last twenty-four hours. The province’s single-day tally of recoveries was 512.
“Less than 1,000 cases for each day of the week”
Pakistan on Friday reported 567 new cases of COVID-19 during the last twenty-four hours and with this single day tally, the country reported less than 1,000 new cases on every day of the entire week.
With decline in new coronavirus cases over the week, the positivity rate of coronavirus has also dropped below 2 per cent which is being seen as a big achievement in fight against the virus.
According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) after 39,200 tests conducted in last twenty-four hours and reporting of 567 new infections, the country’s positivity rate stood at 1.44 per cent.
Pakistan’s toll after 16 deaths in the last twenty-four hours climbed to 28,344 while there are 24,386 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.
Another 864 people have recovered from the coronavirus in Pakistan, taking the total recovered cases to be at 1,214,663.
COVID-19 positivity rate has also declined in Karachi and according to the Sindh government’s health department, the city’s positivity rate is below 2 per cent i.e. 1.8 while the Sindh province’s overall positivity was recorded 2.20 per cent.
Hyderabad, the second biggest city of Sindh after Karachi recorded the highest positivity rate i.e. 3.96 per cent, said the representative of the provincial government’s health department.
