New Delhi: Hindu fundamentalist outfit Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sadhvi Prachi sparked a controversy on Tuesday by stating that it was time to make India ‘Muslim-free’ and that she was “working on it”.
Claiming that India had successfully achieved the Congress-free India mission, Prachi, who is infamous for her hate speeches against religious minorities, said it was time to get rid of Muslims in the country.
“Now that we have executed successfully the mission of making a Congress-free India, it is time to make India Muslim-free. It is our mission and we are working on that,” she said on the sidelines of an event in Roorkee in Uttarakhand.
She was speaking near the site where a communal clash left at least 32 people dead, including 12 police officers, injured on June 1. The incident took place when supporters of a local politician reportedly tried to forcibly evacuate a scrap dealer’s shop.
In a controversial video released from there, she slammed Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan for being “pro-Pakistan”. She also urged people to make Aamir Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dangal’ a flop.
“After two films of Shah Rukh Khan bit the dust at box office, now he is remembering Hindus. He is wooing Hindu audiences now,” Prachi said.
She also claimed that if controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Uttar Pradesh (UP) Yogi Adityananth is projected as the chief minister candidate for the state polls next year, the party will win more than 300 seats.
BJP chief Amit Shah had on Tuesday said that the party will not have a CM candidate in the northern state.
In the past, Prachi had made bizarre demands such as those opposed to Yoga should be sent to Pakistan, revoking of voting rights of those having more than two children and Central Bureau of India (CBI) probe in Muslim educational institutions for their alleged anti-national activities.
She had launched a scathing attack on Shah Rukh Khan last year calling him a Pakistani agent and that “he should move to Pakistan”. Her statement came in the wake of Khan’s intolerance statements.
She had also claimed that there were “terrorists hiding in the Parliament” in remarks that appeared to be targeting lawmakers who opposed the execution of 1993 blasts convict Yakub Memon.
