She thought she was going to attend a children's birthday party but instead, the 44-year-old victim was allegedly gang raped on June 24 by four men in Mumbai, who have now been arrested.

According to the police, one of the accused, Abdul Jilani Sheikh, invited the unidentified victim over, saying that it is a children's birthday celebration at his friend's house.

The accused reportedly mixed an intoxicant in her drinks and raped her in a semiconscious state, along with three others, Hyder Ali Sardar Sheikh, 35, Murad Mehboob Sheikh, 29, and Mohammed Mudashir Nabi Sheikh, 34.

Following the incident, Abdul assisted the victim to her house in a taxi.

The next day, the victim felt pain in her body and noticed scars on it. After three days, the condition of the victim worsened and she was admitted to a hospital. During the treatment, it was revealed that the victim was gang raped, the police said.

“In her complaint, she said that after reaching the house, she tried to leave when she realised that there was no birthday party there. But the four convinced her to stay,” an officer from Mankhurd police station was quoted as saying.

An official complaint has been registered against the accused.

"Based on the statement of the victim, we have registered a case of gang rape,” a police official was quoted as saying.

"We have arrested the four accused and produced them in the court," the police personnel added.

The court has ordered to keep the accused in police custody till July 8.

Abdul, Hyder and Murad are residents of Matunga Labour Camp, while Mohammed lives at Sathe Nagar in Mankhurd. Abdul sells spices and Mohammed runs a sewing machine unit, local media outlets reported.
