New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader and party in-charge for Telangana state Digvijaya Singh on Monday stirred a controversy when he accused Telangana police of setting up a fake website to radicalise and encourage Muslim youth to become Daesh terror modules.
“Telangana police has set up a bogus Isis [Daesh] site, which is radicalising Muslim youths and encouraging them to join Isis [Daesh] modules. It was on their information that Madhya Pradesh (MP) police arrested accused responsible for the bomb blast in train in Shajapur district of MP,” Singh tweeted.
He asked Telangana state administration if it was “ethical” for them to lure Muslim youth to terror.
“Has Telangana Chief Minister (CM) K Chandrashekhar authorised Telangana police to trap Muslim youth and encourage them to join Isis? If he has, then shouldn’t he take responsibility and resign? If he hasn’t, then shouldn’t he inquire and punish those who are responsible for committing such a heinous crime,” Singh stated.
Reacting to the allegation, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Telangana state spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said it was time for Congress to sack Singh.
“Going by his baseless comments on Telangana police, I seriously feel Congress should sack Digvijay Singh immediately,” Rao said.
BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao, who hails from Telangana, said Singh was consistently issuing “wild and baseless” statements after becoming his party’s in-charge for Telangana state.
“Telangana police must initiate action against Digvijay Singh. His statement has shocked me. He has a habit of issuing wild and baseless statements,” Muralidhar Rao tweeted.
State Information and Technology Minister KT Rama Rao said Singh’s statement was the most reprehensible thing he had ever come across in his political career.
“It is the most irresponsible and reprehensible thing coming from a former chief minister. I request him to withdraw these comments unconditionally or provide evidence to support his allegations,” Rama Rao tweeted on Monday.
Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma also supported Rama Rao.
“Unfounded allegations from a senior responsible leader will lower the morale and image of police engaged in fighting anti-national forces,” Sharma told Gulf News.
