This week, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in a village in the Indian state of Odisha. The incident happened in the state’s Kendrapara district on Tuesday night.
According to an Indian news report, the victim went to a nearby police station to complain on Wednesday. She alleged that her father, Debaraj Dalei, a truck driver, had not only raped her but also assaulted her when she protested.
The victim, a student of grade 10, said that her 45-year-old father threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
Apparently, the accused has four sons and three daughters, and the victim is the eldest.
A Kendrapara police official said that they had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
Police also sent the victim for a medical examination at a district hospital.
The police were not able to arrest the accused, because he fled the village after committing the crime. The police official added that a manhunt had been launched to nab him.
