Kochi: Sree Narayana Dharmaparipalana (SNDP) Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan is now in the dock in connection with a Rs4.5 million (Dh365,853) graft case.

A complaint to this effect was filed by the Nair Service Society (NSS) yesterday before the Justice Paripoornan Commission probing the Devaswom (temple administration) corruption.

The complaint said Vellappally transferred the sum of money to a fake account.

The complaint was that Vellappally illegally gained Rs4.5 million and the sum was received by Malikappuram Melsanthi (priest) as offering. The complaint was initially submitted to the NSS by Melsanthi's father Sreedharan Potty.

Ordinance

A three-member panel comprising former Supreme Court judge K.S. Paripoornan, former High Court Judge B.M. Thulasidas and former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director D.R. Karthikeyan took the evidence yesterday.

The complaint comes close on the heels of the Kerala government issuing an ordinance to put an end to the financial malpractices in the temple administration, which was met by stiff opposition from a number of Hindu religious organisations.
