Flex board makers in Kerala launc a clean-up drive of the boards used during the local body polls
Thiruvananthapuram: In a unique act of social responsibility, flex board makers in Kerala have launched a clean-up drive of the boards that were widely used during the just-concluded local body elections in the state.
Flex boards were a prominent way to drive home the candidates' photos, election symbols and messages to the voters during the high-pitched election campaign, but it had also caused heart burn among environmentalists who were concerned about the pollution that flex board usage would lead to.
Taking on a responsible role, the Flex Printing Owners' Association of Kerala (FPOAK) has launched the clean-up drive across the state, with the motto, ‘We recycle what we print'.
On Thursday, FPOAK officials went around the capital city, collecting used flex boards that were discarded after the local body elections, aiming to recycle them.
FPOAK officials said a similar clean-up and recycling campaign for flex boards will be rolled out in Kochi tomorrow.
Reports say the association may use the services of Kudumbasree workers, who are engaged in collecting household wastes, to collect discarded flex boards too.
