Patna: A Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker badly assaulted his party colleague after the latter allegedly misbehaved with his lawmaker wife in the Bihar assembly, inviting wide condemnation from the ruling alliance leaders. The incident took place in the corridors of Bihar assembly on Wednesday.

Reports said a female lawmaker Nutan Singh from the Lok Janshakti Party was climbing up the steps of the Bihar assembly to participate in the House proceedings when a BJP lawmaker suddenly came from behind and groped her. LJP is an ally of the BJP and both have the mandate to sit in the opposition.

Angry at his conduct, the female lawmaker called up her husband Niraj Kumar Babloo, also a BJP lawmaker, and informed him about the incident. Babloo who was also present in the Bihar assembly came rushing to the spot and beat up his party colleague Prasad, witnesses said.

This was reportedly the second time Prasad had misbehaved with his wife in recent months. Subsequently, the lawmaker couple rushed to the office of the Council chairman and registered a formal complaint against the BJP lawmaker for his misconduct.

“Yes, I have received a complaint from the victim couple. We will decide over the matter soon,” Council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh told the media today.

The ruling Grand Alliance leaders today sought action against the accused BJP lawmaker for misbehaving with a female lawmaker in the assembly premises. “We demand strong action against the accused. We are surprised to see the BJP leadership silent over such a serious issue. It’s sad to know such incident took place inside the assembly,” remarked deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav.

Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi brushed aside the incident. “I haven’t received any complaint in this matter. I will see into it once I get the complaint,” Modi told the media today.

Babloo was earlier with the Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JD-U). He later joined the BJP ahead of the last 2015 assembly elections and was elected from Chhatapur. His wife on the other hand was nominated to the Upper House of the state legislature on a LJP ticket.
