Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana is gearing up for a show of its organisational might in the state as the party’s national president Amit Shah visits Hyderabad on Friday.
BJP member of the state legislative council, Ramchandra Rao, told the media today that a bike rally featuring 5,000 motorbikes would be organised by the party in the city to mark Amit Shah’s visit to galvanise the party in the state.
During public meetings with state BJP leaders and workers in various areas besides separate meeting with leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the party’s ideological fountainhead, Shah will review the party’s poll preparedness in Telangana as the prospects for an early election have gone up with the state’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) party giving its support to the idea of simultaneous elections to parliament and the state assembly.
Shah will participate in the election management committee and core committee meetings where he will review the progress made in the formation of booth-level committees and appointment of workers to take care of each page of the voters’ list, or panna pramukhs, which is a crucial aspect of Shah’s election strategy for state elections.
Shah’s review assumes significance as, during his last two visits to the state, he had publicly expressed his displeasure over the lack of preparedness and organisational weakness of the BJP in the state.
Party source said that Shah will chart a roadmap for the state leaders to achieve the goal of bringing the party to power in the state by targeting the ruling TRS.
The BJP is also expected to explore the possibility of luring a few leaders of TRS to its camp in the midst of reports of rising discontent within the party. However, the BJP has not been able to attract any important leader from any other party in the state so far.
Interestingly, Shah is coming to Hyderabad at a time when a fresh round of speculation has begun that the TRS is not averse to a post-poll tie-up with the BJP.
Chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to support the idea of simultaneous polls is being seen as an indication that he is willing to do business with the BJP on the electoral front.
