Washington: The International Monetary Fund approved a new $133.6 million loan for Afghanistan on Tuesday after a year of talks stalled by the massive Kabul Bank scandal.

Fund officials said Kabul had made good progress on cleaning up the financial system and beginning the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from Kabul Bank, which they termed a "ponzi scheme" that involved many powerful Afghan businessmen and officials.
