Danish soldier killed in southern Afghanistan

Copenhagen:  The Danish army says a soldier has been shot and killed on a foot patrol in southern Afghanistan.

The Army Operational Command says the service member was flown to a field hospital for treatment but was dead upon arrival.

In Friday's report, the army said the unidentified soldier was a member of the Royal Life Guards, an infantry unit.

Denmark has now lost 26 soldiers in Afghanistan since it joined the US-led coalition in 2002.

The Nordic country has about 700 troops serving in the NATO force in Afghanistan. Most of them are based in the volatile southern Helmand province.
