A semi-truck driver experienced a harrowing close call on January 9 when a flying block of ice dislodged from the roof of an oncoming van and smashed through his windshield on US Highway 50 near Cedar Point, Kansas.

The Chase County Sheriff’s Office shared dramatic footage of the incident on social media, capturing the moment the ice chunk shattered the windshield and sent shards of glass flying into the truck’s cab.

Despite the frightening nature of the accident, the truck driver managed to maintain control of the vehicle, safely bringing it to a stop. He sustained only minor injuries, including a few cuts from the broken glass, and declined transportation to the hospital.

“Folks, we can all do a little better at cleaning the snow and ice off of our vehicles before traveling,” the sheriff’s office emphasized in a Facebook post. “This video shows why it’s necessary.”

The video serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by leftover snow and ice on vehicles—a common winter hazard that is often overlooked by drivers.
