The dance quickly went viral, with users praising Trump’s moves
On the eve of the United States’ 250th Independence Day, President Donald Trump energised the celebrations in Iowa with a spirited dance as fireworks lit up the sky and patriotic music played.
Promising a “big, big celebration,” his lively performance blended national pride with a playful tone during a week packed with July 4th festivities nationwide, including parades, fireworks, and tributes to America’s history and military.
The dance quickly went viral on X, with users praising Trump’s moves as “iconic” and the “Best. Dance. Ever.”
The rally came shortly after Congress approved Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill, which he hailed as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
“There could be no better birthday gift for America than Congress passing this bill to make America great again,” Trump said, according to the Associated Press.
Earlier on July 4, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump shared a tender moment during the Independence Day fireworks at the White House. The couple even performed the famous “Trump dance” together on the balcony, a rare and lighthearted sight.
Later that evening in Iowa, fireworks lit up the sky as Trump promised a “big, big celebration” to mark the United States’ 250th Independence Day.
The rally featured patriotic entertainment and a preview of a yearlong nationwide celebration culminating in July 2026. Monica Crowley, White House ambassador for major US events, told USA Today, “We’re planning parties. We are planning a national celebration to really unite the country… out of shared patriotism.”
On July 4, President Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” into law during a White House military family picnic. The legislation includes tax cuts and increased funding for the Pentagon and border security, marking a major win after months of Republican negotiations.
Speaking from the White House balcony, Trump called it “promises made, promises kept” and a “triumph of democracy.” The ceremony featured First Lady Melania Trump, top Cabinet members, key Republican leaders, and a flypast of B-2 bombers.
The bill narrowly passed the House 218-214 and the Senate 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the deciding vote.
Trump’s now-iconic dance routine first gained traction during his 2020 campaign rallies, where he often closed events with the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.,” swaying his hips and throwing subtle fist pumps. The quirky moves quickly went viral, becoming a rally staple and internet sensation.
The dance returned during Trump’s 2024 campaign, now with an added pantomime golf swing that reignited social media buzz and turned the routine into a pop culture phenomenon.
On June 10, 2025, Trump’s “Y.M.C.A.” dance once again stole the spotlight at Fort Bragg during an event marking the Army’s upcoming 250th anniversary. After his speech, Trump danced to loud cheers, even joining two soldiers who mimicked his moves.
The routine, now a signature of his public persona, also appeared on the White House balcony during the 2024 Independence Day fireworks, where he danced alongside First Lady Melania Trump in a rare and playful display.
