Washington: The US COVID-19 death toll on Wednesday surpassed the total American military death toll from the Second World War, according to a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University.

As of Wednesday evening, the tracker showed that 405,400 people have died from the disease caused by the new coronavirus in the United States.

The total number of combat and non-combat deaths in the Second World War was 405,399, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
