Seas along the UAE's coastline are rough, causing strong winds to blow dust across UAE
Dubai: Dust storms and strong winds have been reported in various parts of the UAE on Tuesday afternoon. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued an orange and yellow weather alert warning motorists of reduced visibility on the roads, especially in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
As per the latest weather report, a severe dust storm was reported over Al Hamra in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi and at Al Maktoum International Airport. The Met Office also warns of dust until Thursday, 8 May.
Abu Dhabi Police have advised drivers to exercise caution on the roads, as dusty conditions hinder visibility. In a social media post, they urged residents to refrain from using their phones and taking videos of the weather while driving.
Strong winds are currently being generated by rough seas off the coast of the UAE, affecting both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea. The country is experiencing unstable weather due to a deep low-pressure system, along with a weak upper-level low-pressure system.
Temperatures in the UAE are expected to drop today. Coastal areas will experience high temperatures ranging from 39°C to 44°C. In the inland regions, highs will be between 41°C and 46°C, while the mountainous areas will see temperatures between 27°C and 32°C.
On Wednesday, May 7, weather conditions will be dusty and partly cloudy at times, accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, which may become strong, especially over the sea, will cause blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility. Wind speeds will range from 15 to 30 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h.
The sea is expected to be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and rough in the Oman Sea. Fresh northeasterly winds may reach speeds of 50 km/h, contributing to the rough sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf. Wave heights could reach up to 7 feet offshore from 12:30 PM on Tuesday, May 6, until 12:30 AM on Wednesday, May 7.
