Abu Dhabi: A man has been ordered by a court to pay back Dh78,000 that he swindled from a young woman seeking a job.

The victim, from Al Dhafra region in Abu Dhabi emirate, was promised a prestigious job with an attractive salary by the man. He managed to extract the money from her under the guise of helping her secure this position. However, she eventually discovered that he was a fraudster. Consequently, she filed a lawsuit against him at Al Dhafra Court, which ultimately restored her rights.

The woman stated that she came across the job advertisement on a well-known website, offering positions in a renowned programme. Upon contacting the advertiser, the defendant repeatedly requested money, claiming it was for her employment and investments in a platform.

The Al Dhafra Court of First Instance ruled that the man must pay the woman D78,000 - the amount she had transferred to him after being deceived.

The woman demanded that the defendant pay her the sum along with a 12 per cent legal interest rate from the date of the claim, in addition to court fees and expenses.

The defendant was convicted of fraud for using deceptive means to steal the amount by falsely representing himself as a recruitment agent.

The court ordered the defendant to pay Dh78,000 and cover the plaintiff’s legal expenses.
