Offenders face fines up to Dh3,000, 23 points, vehicle impoundment
Shatrjah: The Sharjah Police have taken swift action against reckless drivers who endanger their own lives and the lives of others on the roads. In a recent operation, the Traffic and Patrols Department of the Sharjah Police General Headquarters seized 19 vehicles and one motorcycle after their drivers were caught performing dangerous stunts on public roads. These actions not only violated traffic laws but also posed a significant threat to public safety.
Colonel Mohammad Alai Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department of Sharjah Police, revealed that the vehicle drivers were engaging in reckless driving behaviour in one of the emirate’s areas late last night. These drivers were seen exhibiting extreme carelessness, prompting the authorities to take immediate action. As a result, several traffic violations were recorded, including driving in a manner that jeopardized both the drivers’ and others’ lives, driving without licence plates, obscuring the vehicle’s licence plates, and causing noise pollution with their vehicles.
Colonel Al Naqbi emphasised that such dangerous practices are heavily penalised under the UAE’s traffic laws. Offenders face hefty fines, which can amount to up to Dh3,000, the addition of 23 traffic points to their record, and the impoundment of their vehicles for up to 90 days. In addition to these penalties, vehicle owners are required to pay release fees of up to Dh20,000 to retrieve their impounded vehicles.
He reiterated that adherence to traffic regulations is a critical component in safeguarding lives and property. He highlighted that responsible driving is not just a legal obligation but also a reflection of the community’s commitment to maintaining public safety. Reckless driving, he noted, significantly increases the risk of accidents and poses a serious threat to both the safety of the individuals involved and other road users.
