Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday announced a discount on the tariff of water transport, covering the water bus, water taxi, Dubai Ferry and the Blue Abra.

RTA said that the move is aimed at making water transport “more enjoyable to all community members, especially frequent users among residents, tourists and visitors descending on Dubai from all corners of the globe.”

“Marine transport riders would enjoy 5 per cent discount on the current fares set for the Water Bus, Water Taxi, Dubai Ferry and Blue Abras in chartered trips only. The said discount will also apply to seniors only riding scheduled trips of Dubai Ferry upon presentation of national identity cards,” said Osama Mesbah Salama, Acting Director of Marine Transport, Public Transport Agency.

Salama said the RTA is also offering a 5 per cent discount for riders who buy two-way tickets for transiting aboard Dubai Ferry between Al Ghubaiba and Marina, where three scheduled trips are operating on this line to ferry riders between the two stations.

The offer will run until the end of December, Salama said.

Passengers using Dubai marine transportation reached 7,492,529 during the first half of this year, with 7,171,509 people using abras and 249,911 using the water bus. There were 56,568 passengers recorded on the Dubai Ferry, and 14,541 passengers on the water taxi.
