Dubai: As part of its commitment to promoting road safety, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive trailer inspection campaign under the banner “Trailer Safety.”

Led by the RTA’s Licensing Activities Monitoring Department, the campaign was rolled out in the first quarter of 2025 and focused on ensuring trailers and semi-trailers operating on Dubai roads meet all technical and safety standards.

Spanning six strategic locations including key routes like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, the initiative involved 2,638 field inspections of heavy vehicles. A total of 177 trailers were specifically examined for compliance with critical safety requirements such as tyre condition, brake efficiency, lighting systems, license validity, and driver permits.

Violations

The campaign uncovered 134 technical faults and resulted in 88 violations. Common issues included worn or unsafe tyres, defective rear and side lighting, missing reflective stickers, and unsafe vehicle loading practices that posed risks to road users.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said: “RTA is dedicated to running regular inspection campaigns, particularly in the road transport sector, to maintain the highest standards of road safety.”

Reducing violations

He added: “This initiative is part of the department’s annual plan. It reflects our ongoing efforts to enhance awareness, both among the public and professionals, about the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. We aim to reduce violations using modern awareness strategies and to mitigate risks stemming from neglect or lack of regular technical maintenance of heavy vehicles, a critical segment in our transport safety ecosystem.”
