Sharjah Police unveil video to help parents spot hidden drug signs
Sharjah: Sharjah Police have released a compelling awareness video urging parents to be vigilant about subtle signs of drug use that may be hidden in plain sight.
Shared via social media, the campaign emphasises the importance of early detection and community vigilance to protect youth from addiction.
The video begins in what looks like an ordinary bedroom. But a closer look reveals warning signs: a small, unlabeled bottle of eye drops and a few unmarked white pills. These everyday objects, the video warns, can mask dangerous substances.
“Drugs often come disguised as everyday things,” the voiceover explains. “They might resemble medicine, school supplies, or personal care items.”
The video also cautions that paraphernalia might be hidden in locked rooms or vehicles, and that changes in a person’s facial expressions or behavior can indicate potential substance use.
Sharjah Police highlight that drug use doesn’t always involve obvious illegal substances. Some forms begin with commonly misused medications like sleeping pills or painkillers, making early awareness and intervention critical.
“Addiction often starts in silence,” the message notes. “That’s why it’s everyone’s responsibility—not just the police—to stay alert.”
Residents are urged to take action and report any suspicious behavior. Concerns can be shared confidentially by calling 8004654.
“Your voice can save a life,” Sharjah Police stressed. “Together, we can keep our communities safe.”
