Sharjah: Motorists in Sharjah can now receive a 35 percent discount on traffic fines if payments are made within 60 days of the violation.

The Sharjah Executive Council on Tuesday approved a decision introducing the new discount scheme during its weekly meeting chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the council. The decision aims to encourage timely payment and ease the financial burden on residents.

In cases where motorists pay their fines within two months, they will receive a 35 per cent reduction. The 35 percent discount applies not only to the fine itself but also to vehicle impoundment duration, impoundment fees, and any late payment penalties.

Those who settle their fines within one year but after the initial 60 days will still benefit from a 25 per cent discount. The discount covers most types of traffic violations, except offenses categorized as “serious”.

Key discussions

During the meeting, which took place at the Ruler's Office, the council discussed a range of general topics related to the progress of government work and reviewed the public policies of government departments and entities, and their role in achieving the vision and strategy of the Emirate of Sharjah.

In line with the Sharjah government’s ongoing support for young entrepreneurs, the council also approved the exemption of a group of entrepreneurial projects supported by the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Foundation “Ruwad” from 50 percent of government fees for a period of two years. The new batch includes 88 projects across various economic activities and priority sectors, distributed throughout the cities and regions of the emirate.
