Released female inmates laud leader's gesture
Dubai: Eight female inmates who were pardoned on humanitarian grounds, expressed their happiness and gratitude towards the noble gesture of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
On July 7, Shaikh Mohammad had ordered the release of eight female inmates from the women's jail at Dubai Police's Punitive and Correctional Establishments.
The pardoned inmates were from different nationalities and have been serving their jail terms with their children. Five of the eight women gave birth in jail, while three of them are due to give birth soon.
They were sentenced for various crimes and for periods ranging between two and four years.
A.M. one of the eight inmates and a mother of two, said she read the release order in one of the English newspapers, but never expected to be among them.
