Dubai International Holy Quran Award gets into motion

Dubai: The 16th Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) began its annual activities with a series of lectures which will run every night till August 4.

The lectures will be followed by the main event of Holy Quran memorising contest which will culminate on August 9 with a grand awards ceremony.

The annual Islamic Personality of the year award will also be presented during the final ceremony, the recipient of which this year will be the much loved American Islamic scholar Yousuf Estes, also known as the Funny Sheikh.

Held Under the patronage of Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the lectures part of DIHQA will be held at multiple venues covering a series of topics.

The first lecture of the year was presented by Engineer Ali Mansour Kayali who extensively discussed “Physics in Holy Quran.” The lecture was held at Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is one of the three main venues, including the Dubai Women’s Association and Jamiatul Islah.

Other prominent scholars scheduled for the lectures are Dr. Omar Abd Al Kafe, Sheikh Sulaiman

Al Jabilan, Dr. Essam Owayd, Dr. Khalid Al Muslih, Dr. Sabri Al Demerdash, who will shed light various subjects like worship and habits, scientific side of worship, Dignity and Beauty of Holy Quran, People of the Quran etc.

Lectures held at Dubai Women Association will be only for women while those at Jamiatul Islah will be for non Arabic speakers, where prominent Bengali and Malayalam scholars like Kazi Mohammed Ebrahim, Mohammed Appeli AbulKhader, Aboobacker Maulavi Alangapoyil and others will enlighten the vernacular gatherings.

The non-Arabic lectures will be held on July 27 and 28, followed by August 2, 3 and 4. All lectures will be start at 10.15pm after Taraweeh prayers.
